What Do We Do All Day?

We do so much and yet some days it seems like we do so little. We stay home almost every day of the week. In fact, going anywhere these days has become a big chore. The twins are no longer content to ride in their stroller and watch everything happening around them. They want to walk, run and touch everything. Zane wants to be home all of the time. He is totally uninterested in going anywhere. There are few places I can get him to go without a big struggle. We do go to the park occasionally. Zane will go to Tae Kwon Do without a struggle. He always has a great time. We go to the library every week or so. Most of the time I search the library catalog from home, request the books and run to the library by myself to pick them up. We read a lot. We have recently reread the whole Bionicle series sometimes a book a day. I have read Corduroy's Best Halloween Ever every night for Caleb for at least 2 months. He has the entire book memorized. He makes up stories about what some of the characters are doing in the pictures that is not in the story. That is how Caleb learns. He likes a few things over and over again. So, I checked the library for more Corduroy books. It turns out, there have been several books written about the little stuffed bear in green overalls by 3 different authors since the 1st Corduroy book came out in the '50s. We have all of the them checked out right now. He loves them all. Now we have a little more variety than Corduroy's Best Halloween Ever. I should say that Caleb loves to leaf through other books and look at the pictures. In the morning I lay books out on the coffee table that I think he might find interesting. I catch him studying them throughout the day.

He was delighted recently when I came home from the library with a Godzilla book. He loves Godzilla and every other monster from the incoherent collection of movies. We have seen 3 or 4 of the movies and I imagine we will have seen them all by the time this craze is over. One of the pictures in the book showed Godzilla next to a man just Godzilla's size. The man was fixing the set before a movie shoot. Caleb said, "Oh, Godzilla vs. the giant man!" I explained to him that this man was fixing a movie set with miniature trees and buildings. But every time he sees that picture he insists it is Godzilla vs. the giant man.

We are still working on our Pumpkin Patch. I'm trying to get the soil ready. We have a lot of clay in our soil, so not only is it compact and hard, but it is even harder since we are in the worst drought in 85 years. Every time it rains, I go out and dig some more. I need to loosen the soil about 1 foot deep before we plant.

April is a time for Birthdays at our house, so we have been busy with party plans for Zane. He gained a year and lost a front tooth. He had a wizard party complete with wands to make, potions to drink, wizard's party hats and a quest with a dragon (pinata) to kill. We all had a great time. And Zane was happy to have his birthday at home (it's cheaper, Mom, and we don't have to go anywhere!). We celebrated Ian's birthday by going to the Oklahoma Aquarium. It is expensive, but we have such a great time when we go. And we all get an education in the process. So, what do we do all day? Anything and everything.

The pictures, top: Caleb and Zane posing with a "Caleb face" pizza. We make lots and lots of homemade pizzas around here. 2nd: Zane and Caleb doing their tough pose with our neighbors and good friends, Ana and Rene. 3rd: Caleb and Zane breaking ground in our Pumpkin patch. 4th: Zane blowing out 7 candles on his birthday trifle. Ian made white cake, homemade vanilla pudding and layered them with strawberries and blueberries.
